Adoption Requirements
Applicants must have a secure and visible fence.

Applicant must be 21 or older.

Children in the home must be 8 years of age or older. If adopting a puppy, children may be younger than 8 years of age.

In order for your application to be approved, you must also pass a home check and a vet check which includes having at least a two year vet history.
All of our dogs can be adopted in Missouri and surrounding states: Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and Arkansas. Other states will be considered if you are willing to travel.

Our adoption fees are:

Adults over 12 months: $400
Puppies: under 12 months: $450

All of our rescued dogs are fully vetted prior to adoption, spayed/neutered (dogs over 12 months), microchipped, up to date on immunizations, and up to date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives.

If you are unsure if you meet these requirements, please contact us prior to filling out an application and we will be happy to provide clarification.
Adoption Process
The adoption process begins when you complete an online Adoption Application. Completing an application does not restrict you to a specific dog, nor does it obligate you to adopt.

Once we have received your application and contacted your vet for a vet reference, we will contact you for a phone interview to determine if you are a good match for the dog you are interested in.

Then we will put you in contact with the foster parent so you may set up a meet and greet with the dog, in person when possible or we can set up a video call.

If you decide you are ready to adopt, we will go over the adoption process with you and send the adoption contract to complete and return to us.
**For health reasons, we do not spay/neuter puppies prior to 12 months of age. Studies have shown that there may be a relationship between hormones and canine health. If spayed/neutered too early, giant breed dogs may be at risk for developing joint problems and certain cancers. Our puppies will be adopted on a spay/neuter contract with the adopter promising to spay/neuter at a later date and must provide a copy of vet records at that time.

Additional Information
Before adopting, keep in mind that many of our dogs prior to being rescued and placed in foster homes have never lived inside a home. Some dogs may never have been walked on a leash, socialized, house-trained or spent time with other animals. Our fosters work with these dogs on many of these issues to prepare them for their furever homes, but these dogs will still need patience and understanding as they learn to adapt when they come to you.

Rescued dogs need adopters who will not give up on them if they have accidents in the house, pull on the leash, dig in the yard, or act nervous or frightened. An adoption will be successful only if the adopter is committed to seeing the dog through the adjustment period. The rewards are the unconditional love and loyalty of a wonderful companion, and the satisfaction of knowing you have given a rescued dog a better life.
If at any time after adoption, you decide you cannot keep the pet for any reason, the dog must be returned to Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri.
